Baringo, KENYA: Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho on Saturday met retired president Daniel Arap Moi just months after Moi’s son Baringo senator Gideon Moi paid a courtesy call to the governor in his Mombasa office.

Joho who is currently on a tour of the region visited Moi at his Kabarak home.

Though details of the meeting remain scanty, Joho was accompanied by several leaders from the region who include Likoni MP Mishi Mboko, Kwale Women rep Zuleikha Hassan, Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire, Busia women rep Florence Mutua, and Mombasa county assembly speaker Arub Khatri.

According to a statement issued by the former president’s team, the governor was welcomed by the former president and his son Gideon Moi, KANU secretary general Nick Salat and MP’s from Tiaty and Moiben.

Joho who has made public his intention to vie for the presidency in 2022 is expected to raise funds for the construction of a mosque in  Maralal Samburu county where he will be hosted by yet another KANU MP Naisoola Lesuuda before returning to Baringo county on Sunday where he will attend a fundraising at Churo girls high school.

The Rift Valley has always been considered a home turf of Deputy President William Ruto who earlier in the year was turned away during a visit to president Moi’s Kabarak home after he was informed that the president was going through a routine medical checkup.
