Nairobi, KENYA:Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati has vowed to stay put amid pressure to see him to resign from office.

In a media briefing in Nairobi on Friday afternoon,Chebukati said that the law is clear on the removal of IEBC commissioners from office urging anyone aggrieved to follow the law and take such action.

“If anybody feels that he has an issue with the commission, the law is very clear ,on the removal of commissioners from office. So they are at liberty to take that route if they so feel.”He said.

Pressure has been mounting on Chebukati and other remaining commissioners, to quit after the commission’s vice chair Connie Nkatha Maina, commissioner Margret Mwachanya and his counterpart Paul Kurgat resigned from the commission recently on grounds of mistrust with the chair.

Chebukati defended his decision of suspending the commission’s CEO Ezra Chiloba terming the move as one way of upholding accountability by permitting financial audit of the commission.

He indicated that there is need for the commission to be given ample time to carry out a conclusive financial audit on usage of public resources without any interference.

He reireated that if Chiloba is found culpable after the audit he will face discplinary action.

Chebukati denounced the three commissioners assertion after resigning by discrediting his name indicating that such assertions are in bad taste and perpetuates ill agenda to undermine the commission.
