Police smash car theft syndicate in Mombasa

Mombasa,KENYA:Police have smashed a racket of  suspected car thieves operating between Mombasa and Nairobi.

The four  suspects were arrested in Mombasa after they were found attempting to break into a car whose owner had gone to a bank  near Makadara grounds.

Police have identified the four arrested as Gabriel Opondo, Fredrick Otieno, Eugene Ochieng and Zacharia Muchima.

Mombasa County police commander Johnston Ipara told Baraka FM the suspects are currently being held at Central police station for interrogation.

‘The four suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday to face robbery charges’, Ipara told Baraka FM on phone.

According to Ipara, the suspects had a motor vehicle make HONDA registration number KCE 254U.

He said that the gang has been causing sleepless nights to car owners in Mombasa and Nairobi.

The police boss called upon residents whose cars  have ever been broken into to report at central police station before the suspects  are  arraigned in court.
