Makueni,KENYA: One person is feared dead and three others injured after a Tanker and trailer collided in Chyulu hills area of Makueni County along the Nairobi –Mombasa highway.
According to alerts from the national police official twitter handle, the accident occurred at 2.00 am when the tanker carrying LG Gas collided with the truck carrying a 40 ft container which ignited a fire from the leaking gas.
“The accident that occurred at approximately 2 am this morning has blocked both lanes of the road. The leaking gas is highly flammable hence all other persons except emergency services providers are advised to stay clear of the scene.” The national police service tweeted.
Sources indicate one person died while three others were injured in the incident which caused a huge traffic snarl-up in the area.
Motorists using the road were to use alternative routes. Those coming from Nairobi heading to Mombasa were advised to divert at Emali and take the Loitoktok- Taveta Road then head to Voi.
While those traveling from Mombasa to Nairobi were advised to divert at Voi and take Taveta- Loitoktok- Emali Road to Nairobi.
This comes just less than a week after motorists spent more 6 hours stuck in traffic in Athi river area of the same highway.
