Kwale, KENYA: Kwale County is celebrating after one of its schools produced the top student in KCPE 2017 examinations in the coastal region and number five nationwide.
The 14-year-old winner Ruth Chaka from Matuga Bethany Christian Academy, has emerged the best in the region and in Kwale County in 2017 KCPE exams, having scored 446 marks out of the possible 500.
She wants to join Alliance girls high school and she aspires to be an Author.
“I am so excited as this was a surprise to me. I knew I would perform better but not as excellent as this. I love reading and writing, I want to become an author in future,” she added.
Lucy Nyarumba of the same school emerged number two in her school with 435 marks.
She couldn’t speak to the press since she was overjoyed by the celebrations.
Baraka Rimba who wants to become a doctor got 434 marks.
He wants to join his dream school Mangu high school.
The school had a mean score of 416 and a total of 15 pupils with 13 scoring 400 marks and above.
The school head teacher Winsue Karanja said the success can be attributed to their missionaries who supported them throughout the exam period.
“This being our first KCPE we didn’t expect this much of achievement but we thank God and teachers for this success.
Amina Mwamosi, 16 years old was joined by parents, teachers and fellow students in celebration of the victory yesterday evening after scoring.
A good number of schools in Kwale County have performed well this season.
The top student in Mekaela academy in Ukunda scored 429 marks.
In Kinango, Mazeras junior academy top student scored 416 followed by Mazeras primary which had the top student scoring 411 marks.
Education director Brigit Wambua said reports from sub-county education officers state that there are two pupils in Kinango with 416 and 401 marks.
“I am waiting for the sub-county directors to give me a full report on the results but the system is very slow,” said Wambua
