Police fire tear gas to disperse anti-IEBC protesters led by NASA leaders

Nairobi, KENYA: Police on Wednesday fired tear gas to dispersed National Super Alliance demonstrators in Nairobi who were protesting towards the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission headquarters .

Initially, the NASA supporters started demonstrating from Uhuru Park after NASA leaders’ address including James Orengo ,Johnston Muthama and Ali Hassan Joho.

They protested through Haile Selassie Avenue but on reaching Moi Avenue Trouble ensued when police lobbed teargas at them.

The incident prompted the businessmen along Moi Avenue and Kenyatta Avenue to close their businesses fearing that looters might take advantage.

Moments later, they regrouped along Uhuru Highway where they embarked on their demonstration heading to the IEBC headquarters along University Way.

Earlier at Uhuru park,NASA leaders including James Orengo said that Raila Odinga has not yet completely withdrawn from the race,insisting that they will increase the momentum of their demonstrations as from next week which will transpire daily until their demands are met.

Orengo said that NASA will pressurize IEBC officials whom they allege that they bungled elections , be removed from office and push for electoral reforms especially in the commission.

Mombasa governor Ali Hassan joho vowed to continue with the demonstrations until justice in electoral process is achieved.
