Sammy Ruwa retains Kwale county speaker seat

Kwale,KENYA:Kwale county speaker Stanely Ruwa on Wednesday retained his position as the county speaker.

This was after he floored 7 contenders who were eyeing the same position.

Ruwa failed to garnered 2/3 of the votes required to be speaker in a first round of voting .

Ruwa garnered 22 votes against finance chief Raphael Chimera who garnered 12 votes in the first round of voting.

Ruwa garnered 25 votes in a second round of voting against Chimera’s 9 votes.

Ruwa was sworn in by the county assembly speaker Dennis Mutui and is set to be deputized by Kubo South MCA Andrew Kubo.

The MCA for Pongwe Kikoneni ward Bakari Mgussu is set to take over as the majority leader while Puma ward MCA is set to take over as the minority leader.

The exercise to elect the Kwale county speaker took place after the MCA’s were sworn in.

There Kwale county assembly has 34 MCA’s 20 of whom are elected while 14 are nominated.
