Government urged to use army to supply food in flood hit areas at the Coast

Nairobi, KENYA: The government has been urged to use army and national youth service through the ministry of Planning and Devolution to Supply food stuffs to the coastal residents who have been adversely affected by floods.

In a media briefing at parliamentary buildings on Tuesday, Kwale women Rep Zainabu Chidzuga said that there is need for the Devolution ministry and army to be involved in the mission following the fact that most of the road networks in the coastal region have been affected.

She urged the government to permit army to build temporal bridges after some bridges in the south coast were washed away by the floods.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta kindly give an order to our army to salvage this situation.”Chidzuga said

“CS kiunjuri is capable of supplying foodstuffs to the affected areas ,especially Kinango ,LungaLunga and other parts in the coastal areas .we were hit by drought and now floods are all over the coast.”She added

Chidzuga also urged aid agencies to help in supplying food and other stuffs after the floods’ havoc affected residents’ shelter.

She cautioned coastal residents to keep off the ocean especially during this rainy season to avert further havoc.
