Kwale,KENYA:Kwale county governor Salim Mvurya has denied claims that he was involved in disrupting the Kinango and Lunga Lunga ODM rallies in Kwale county on Thursday.
Mvurya has refuted the claims with defense that he is neither involved in commanding the police and has further directed the ODM leaders who raised the claims to seek clarity from security agencies in the consecutive areas.
“I was not involved in any way. Security agents can answer your questions very well,” he noted.
On Thursday a number of ODM leaders who had attended the rally pointed fingers at the Kwale County governor with claims that he was behind the cancellations.
In a press statement issued by ODM leaders after the cancellation of the rally, Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and the Kwale county government speaker Sammy Ruwa among other leaders blasted the Jubilee government claiming that it has was taking back the country to the dictatorial era.
“We are really surprised that even with a change of constitution such occurrences are still happening . We went to Kwale peacefully as we had promised and we had planned the event for a long time. But when people are disrupted for no reason it is not encouraging at all,” said Joho.
Coast Region Coordinator Nelson Marwa on Thursday while speaking in Msambweni,Kwale county warned Governor Hassan Joho against engaging himself politics of the Coast region and instead advised him to concentrates on his Mombasa County politics.
Angered by Joho’s self proclaim as The Sultan of the coast region,Marwa said the governor should not be allowed to move in the coastal counties and get cheered on by the residents.
“If you are in Mombasa keep your politics in Mombasa, don’t interfere with Kwale” he said.
He asked Joho not to remind Kenyans of the slavery they went through during the reign of Sultans.
“You should read the late Professor Mazrui’s story on the trip of heritage and see what troubles Africans went through in the hands of Sultans” Marwa added.
He warned Joho against making trips to Lamu, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kilifi and Kwale Counties to hold rallies there.
“People in those Counties need to be respected, we don’t want disrespect and we should stand up for this country” he said.
