Nairobi, KENYA: The ministry of lands and physical planning is set to introduce access control cards in bid to curb land cartel menace that has been affecting the ministry for many years.
In a media briefing in Nairobi on Wednesday , Lands CS Prof Jacob Kaimenyi said that the cards will help the ministry in monitoring people who will be visiting land offices, in bid to lock out masqueraders and cartels in the ministry.
He said that the service will be rolled out a cross the country soon.
“We have introduced what we call biometric access control cards and the reason why we have this card is principally to make sure people who come to this ministry dont move floor to floor ,if they go somewhere it must be specific floor so that we can get rid of cartels and brokers because they are many here.”Prof Kaimenyi said.
Prof Kaimenyi said that the ministry is fasrracking ammendments of the valuers act so as to inject professionalism in the land sector to sanitize pricing of land as per market value .
He indicated that the country has only 300 valuers creating loop holes for quacks to take advantage and infiltrate the sector.
He said that the ministry is in advanced stage in cleaning and digitizing land registries in order to sanitaze land sector and uphold effeciency and storage .
“We are in advanced atage in digitizing registries ,by the end of june we will have digitized 18 registries out of 57 registries in the country .” Prof Kaimenyi said.
