Mombasa, KENYA: Mombasa Knut branch has told off education CS Fred Matiangi telling him to ‘come slowly’ on reforms in the Education sector.
This is after the CS on Wednesday reiterated his earlier stand to have non-academic activities held on weekends, to provide enough time for the completion of the syllabus.
Speaking to Baraka FM on phone on Thursday, Knut Mombasa branch sec gen. Dan Aloo castigated Matiangi saying he is too fast in bringing reforms that are also ‘unpopular’.
Aloo said Matiangi’s days as CS are numbered adding that his actions are hurting Jubilee regime’s re-election in the August General polls.
He likened Matiangi’s reign with former Transport CS who was hounded out of office for banning night travel.
“We had Maina in Transport. Where is he now?.So Matiang’I should come slowly. His time will come to leave that office”, he added
According to Aloo, the CS does not like involving stakeholders in making critical decisions.
“Who does he think he i? In fact his title of Doctor does not mean he is one. It just depicts that he specialized in a particular subject,” he said.
The Knut official also cautioned the CS against what he called “disrespecting God by ordering that school games be held on Weekends’.
“Matiang’I as a Seventh Adventist SDA Member should respect people’s right to have time for spiritual nourishment,’’
‘’How can he tell teachers to work on Saturdays and Sunday when people should be in church or mosques”, he asked.
He urged teachers to ignore the new directive by the CS claiming they are against their employment contract which stipulates they are required in school five days a week.
“This CS is messing teachers, lecturers, schools and everything in Education sector, he should consult instead of using force to implement changes in the sector,’’ he alleged.
His sentiments seem to reckon what Knut Secretary General Wilson Sossion had said over the weekend where he strongly opposed the radical changes being made by Matiang’I in the Education sector terming them harmful.
