Night guard at beach hotel hacked to death

Mombasa, KENYA: Armed robbers killed a night guard and stole goods worth millions of shillings at a construction site located at Milele beach hotel, Mombasa, Thursday night.

According to police, the deceased Charles Omolo ,66, who was alone during the incident, was tied all over before he was hacked to death.

Police said the suspects numbering 20 made a way with tiles and other building materials which were at the site;a lorry was used to ferry the items.

Kisauni police chief Christopher Rotich said the night guard was tied and a mask put on his head before he was hacked to death.

He said his colleague Enock Saha woke up to the sad news as he was going to take over the morning shift from the deceased; only to find him lying in a pool of blood.

Police who visited the scene believe the incident might be an inside job as it was well planned.

The police chief said the premises is being constructed by Lamb company and all the employees have since recorded a statement with police.

He said the thieves made away with  400 cartons of tiles,150 pieces of washing basins; all worth sh. 20 million in total.

The body of the deceased was moved to Coast General morgue.
