Nairobi, KENYA: Council of governors has faulted the national government’s poor coordination as a contributory factor in accelerating hunger crisis inn the country.
In a media briefing in Nairobi on Monday, Council of Governors chair Peter Munya said that the sh.5.3 billion contingency funds allocated to line ministries is not well coordinated.
“Support by national government to the affected counties is not well coordinated.The counties are not aware of the interventions being done by national government .”Munya said
He pointed that there is need for the national government to harmonize the coordination activities at the county level following the fact that national government allocated sh. 21 billion to respond to the current drought.
Munya warned that if interventions will not be upheld the crisis might be worse in the near future.
“As from August 2016 the targeted number of people for assistance was 1.3 million kenyans.the number of persons is increasing day by day with more than 2.7 million kenyans in need of assistance by February 2017.It is estimated that by April 2017 4million people will need assistance.”He said
On the other hand ,the council said that its liasion team lead by the ceo Jackline Mogeni and Kisii governor James Ongwae will fastrack the talks to find a truce on the matter.
“Council of governors Welcomes and supports the court appointed mediation team to end the doctors strike impasse so that Kenyans can access health services across 47 county governments.” He said.
