London, ENGLAND: Chelsea FC record goal scorer Frank Lampard has retired from professional football.
The former England international made the announcement on Thursday through social media, bringing to an end his 21 years footballing career.
Lampard retires at the age of The 38 having won 106 England caps and scored more than 300 career goals, 211 of them during his 13-year stint with Chelsea.
He has hanged his boots after seeing off his contract with New York City in Major League Soccer in the US last year.
Besides Chelsea and New York City, Lampard also played for Manchester City and West Ham United.
Only Manchester United’s greats Ryan Giggs (632) and Gareth Barry (615) have made more Premier League appearances than Lampard (609).
He becomes the latest former English international to retire from professional football after Liverpool legend Steve Gerrard who retired last year.
