Hundreds of youths turn out for police recruitment in Mombasa

Mombasa,KENYA: Hundreds of youths in Mombasa county on Thursday turned up for police recruitment conducted by national police service.

The exercise was conducted at Mvita grounds in Majengo.

National police service commissioner Murshid Mohammed who were present at the exercise, said those will be selected will be absorbed to police constables, administration police and DCI.

The official said he was impressed by the large turnout.

“We intend to recruit 10,000 people both men and women to join the service. Constitutionally is to make sure all tribes are absorbed and I assure you that will be adhered to,” said Commissioner Mohammed.

He said the regular police will recruit 5,000 candidates while Administration Police AP will absorb 4,000 recruits and the remaining slot will be absorbed to join DCI, adding that the candidates will be selected after rigorous physical and health screening.

Qualifications for the DCI are maximum mean grade of C plus and Diploma holders.

They will be tasked in criminal investigations, forensic labs, intelligence gatherings and other security duties, said Mr Mohammed.

Mr Mohammed said the standards for recruits were clear according to police orders.

“Those with vision problems and generally physical problems will not be absorbed in the service. These are very dangerous in the service and they will not be absorbed. Take for example a person with an eye problem handling a G3 riffle,” posed Mr Mohammed.

He said Kenyans between ages of 18 and 28 who scored D plus and above were eligible to join the service.

They are expected to report for training on May 19, according to the Commissioner.
