Malindi-based club Rocky FC are the new champions of Kilifi county after edging Chasimba United 2-0 in the mini-league finals played at Malindi High School on Sunday.
A second-half goal from Naseeb Chibu and an own goal were enough for Rocky to conquer the Kilifi football league after only one season.
Rocky started the mini-league very well, winning 1-0 against Linfa in their first game, before smashing Kikulacho 2-1 in the semis. Then Chasimba made it three wins in three games, scoring five goals and conceding only one.
Rocky finished top of the normal Kilifi County league in Zone to qualify for the mini-league.
The Malindi-based club garnered 45 points from 20 games by winning 13, drawing six, and losing one game. This earned them a promotion to the regional league, making a come-back after 14 years.
Rocky FC received a trophy and sh.50,000, balls plus medals for the players.
First runner-up Chasimba was awarded sh.35,000 and balls, third-placed Kikulacho received sh.20,000 and fourth-placed Real Galana received sh.10,000.
