More than 74 percent of candidates who sat for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations failed to attain direct university entry qualifications.

In the results announced by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba on Thursday, only 246,391 (25.53%) of the 962,512 candidates who sat the 2024 KCSE examinations attained direct university entry qualifications of C+ and above, meaning that 716,121 failed to attain direct entry qualifications.

“To enhance the credibility of the examination process, for the first time, candidates’ examination question papers were personalized and anonymized. This helps to improve objectivity during marking and holding candidates personally responsible for any irregularities,” said education CS Julius Migos.

1,693 candidates garnered 81 to 84 points to attain a mean grade of A plain, while 244,698 attained between an A- and C+.

230,498 scored between C plain and C-, while 128,885 attained a D+.

353,069 (36.7 percent) of candidates who sat the 2024 KCSE exams managed to garner less than 24 points to get a D plain and below.
