Financial challenges hit again in the lower-tier league, as National Super League teams seem to be giving out walkovers even before the mid-season arrives due to a lack of sponsorship deals.

Earlier on Sunday, Vihiga United from the western region failed to show up for their NSL match against Mombasa United at Serani grounds in Mombasa.

The hosts who had prepared for the match the whole week felt “wasted.”

“We had prepared well for this match to get the three points after the away loss, but the walkover on our side is good because our aim was the three points. During the transfer window there will be some changes to boost my squad,” Mombasa United Coach Hamadi Said told Baraka FM.

With the walkover, as per the rules, Mombasa United were declared 2-0 victors, boosting their points to 12, and are safe from the relegation zone.

“The points are welcome as they go a long way in helping us achieve our target of gaining promotion to the Premier League next season,” said Said.

In another match earlier in the same ground, host Congo Boys who ply their trade in division one league failed to use the home advantage and settled for a two-goal draw against visitors Zetech Titans.
