Bandari’s hopes to top the Kenya Premier League table lasted only a few minutes after conceding a late equalizer from visitors KCB in a match that ended in a 1-1 draw at the Ukunda Showground Stadium.
After taking the lead in the dying minutes of first half through Shariff Majabe, the Ken Odhiambo’s boys could not withstand the pressure from KCB in the second half, conceding an equalizer from Derrick Otanga in favour of the visitors.
Speaking to Baraka FM, Bandari Head Coach Ken Odhiambo attributed the draw to lack of concentration and a bad football ground.
“In the second half, we lost concentration and gifted them a goal through a mistake near our box, the playing surface was also bad. We hope to soon return to our home ground at the Mbaraki Sports Club so that our players can play comfortably,” said Odhiambo.
KCB Head Coach Patrick Odhiambo echoed his counterpart’s concerns about the pitch.
The much-anticipated clash saw both teams display their attacking and defensive skills, with fans expecting a high-scoring encounter. Bandari struck first in the final moments of the first half, with Majabe converting a fine corner from William Wadri.
In the second half, KCB came out energized, relentlessly attacking a Bandari side that chose to defend their slender lead. Substitute William Gitama was a rare bright spark for Bandari, occasionally troubling KCB’s defense.
KCB’s persistence paid off in the 84th minute when Otanga pounced on a loose ball in the box and slotted it past the goalkeeper, ensuring the spoils were shared.
The result sees Bandari drop to third place on the table with 20 points, while KCB remains at the top with 23 points from 12 matches.
