Police in Uganda are on a manhunt for an Arsenal football club fan who allegedly assaulted a Manchester United fan leading to his death.
The suspect is said to have gotten into a scuffle with the deceased on Sunday evening during the Arsenal vs Liverpool match which ended in a 2-2 draw.
The incident took place at a video hall in Kyobugombe trading center where the two were watching the Liv vs Ars game.
“When Liverpool scored an equalizer in the 81st minute, the Manchester United fan started jubilating and this angered the Arsenal fan. He (Man U fan) threw popcorn at the Arsenal fan sparking an argument between the two. After the game, the Arsenal fan picked a stick and hit the Manchester United fan causing him to fall,” said Kaharo subcounty LCIII Chairperson Edmond Tumwesigye.
According to Tumwesigye, the deceased, Benjamin Okello, was rushed to Bukinda Health Center for treatment and later referred to Rugarama where he died.
District Police Commander (DPC) Joseph Bakaleke said they have yet to arrest the suspect at large.
“We have tried to encourage the relatives of the deceased to be calm as we continue to hunt for the other one who is alleged to have participated in the fight to explain what exactly happened, as well as get information from those who were present to aid investigations,” said DPC Bakaleke.
