Gor Mahia Skipper Philemon Otieno was forced to come to the rescue of his teammates after irate fans stormed the dressing room demanding to know why the club lost 2-1 to struggling Nairobi City Stars on Monday.
In a video doing rounds online, the captain asked a section of loyal fans to forgive them stating that the defeat was because they missed some key players who were on international duty over the weekend with Harambee Stars.
“I cannot use that as an excuse. What I want to say is that for today, forgive us. It is our first loss of the season but we are sorry,” Otieno said.
The fans accused the players of playing individual local tournaments for tokens making them tired when it came to the competitive league.
K’Ogalo lost their first league game despite taking the lead in the first half through Levin Odhiambo at Kenyatta stadium before Robinson Asenwa and Denis Oalo’s goals in the 60th and 68th minute completed the comeback for the Simba wa Nairobi side who secured their first victory of the season.
Gor Mahia remains in 9th place in the league table with seven points after four games while City Stars have now moved to 14th place from the relegation zone.
