Coast leaders have comdemned remarks by Deputy President Rigathy Gachagua pinning all the blame for the current antiFinance Bill 2024 protests on National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji.
Speaking in Mombasa on Friday, the leaders reminded DP Gachagua that national security was a collective responsibility.
“As we all know, our country’s security does not solely lie on the NIS, we have the Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki, we also have the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome,” said Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo.
His sentiments supported by ODM Deputy Party Leader and former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho.
“In the running of a government, there is what we call collective responsibility and when it comes to blame then it is just right that everyone involved gets it,” said Joho.
Madzayo, the Senate Minority leader also accused the DP of targeting NIS DG Haji because he came from a marginalized community among other reasons.
“Another reason is that he may be eyeing the NIS Director General’s position for one of his allies,” said Madzayo.
The leaders condemned the DP’s alleged attack on marginalised communities and alleged tribalism.
“DP Gachagua is the biggest tribalist, he preaches tribalism everywhere he goes. We are telling him to leave Noordin Haji alone, the NIS DG has been carrying out his duties as he should. He shares intel with the president who can then decide if he wants to share it with the DP,” said Madzayo.
Their remarks came just two days after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua accused NIS DG Noordin Haji of exposing President William Ruto by not sufficiently informing him on the anti Finance Bill 2024 protests.
Speaking on Wednesday at his official residence in Mombasa, DP Gachagua put all the blame on the NIS DG saying he should be held accountable for the current situation in the country.
In his reply to the Deputy President, NIS DG Haji said the DP was not privy to what intelligence was shared with the president.
