The delay in the nominations and appointment of the County Executive Committee Members in Mombasa has slowed down the budget-making process in Mombasa County.

Speaking in Mombasa during the launch of the Coast Civil Society Network for Human Rights guidelines, Chair Zedekiah Adika said the new CECs should organize themselves in the next two weeks and then start the budget process.

“They should follow the process as it should; start with County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP), followed by the Annual Development Plan and then we start plans for the Annual Budget for 2023-2024,” said Adika.

“We want that process to be followed as it should, let them not skip any because of the constraints of time. We want a proper public participation process beginning from the ward to the county level. That should be across all six sub-counties,” he added.

Adika also said everything should be done within the prisms of the law and due process must be followed with regard to the establishment of the County Budget Economic Forum.

The new Mombasa CECs were sworn in on the 14th of March 2023.
