Motorist runs over a traffic police officer in Mombasa

A motorist in Nyali, Mombasa was on Monday arrested for running over a traffic police officer.

Osman Jama Abdi is said to have run over Police Constable Julius Marwa, attached to Makupa police station, who was on duty in Buxton area.

According to reports, Constable Marwa had stopped motor vehicle reg no. KDD 986D and asked the driver to turn off the engine to allow him conduct a traffic check but Jama declined.

Constable Marwa is then said to have opened the driver’s door with intent to turn off the ignition but Jama unexpectedly pulled him inside the car before driving off at a high speed with Constable Marwa’s feet dragging on the tarmac for about 200m.

He is then said to have pushed the Constable out of the moving vehicle which ran over him.

Constable Marwa was rushed to Jocham hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

He had sustained serious head injuries and several fractures on the pelvis.

Jama’s vehicle was then traced at a basement parking in Nyali with him locked inside.

He was arrested and the vehicle towed to Makupa police station.
