It’s only a few months into 2023 and if the moves in the AI industry are anything to go by then we are in for a treat this year.
Would it not be nice if you could have your own personal DJ in your pocket?

That is exactly what Spotify intends to do with the upcoming launch of its ‘DJ’ feature.
There are 2 main aspects to the DJ:
- A personalized playlist customized to a user’s listening habits.
- A smooth AI-generated DJ voice occasionally voicing over songs.
Back in the “old days” this is how most people listened to music. A radio host would give some commentary and then play a new song.
This is debatably even better since the experience will be personalized to each listener.
To pull this off, Spotify is using its existing personalization tech and its 2022 Sonanticaquisition.
There are also reports that they are leveraging OpenAI technology. But no official partnership has been announced.
As of now, the feature is only available in English for Spotify Premium subscribers in the U.S. and Canada.
