US citizens in Kenya have been urged to review their personal security plans and exercise vigilance in locations frequented by tourists and foreigners.

This is after the United States Embassy issued a security alert for its citizens in Kenya.

According to the alert dated February 9th, 2023, terrorists may target high-traffic areas frequented by foreigners and tourists in Nairobi and elsewhere in Kenya.

“Terrorist groups could attack with little or no warning, targeting hotels, embassies, restaurants, malls and markets, schools, police stations, places of worship, and other places frequented by foreigners and tourists.  The government of Kenya has increased counterterrorism patrols,” read the alert.

The alert has cautioned tourists to also beware of their surroundings and monitor local media for updates as a way of avoiding attacks.

“Locations frequented by U.S. citizens and other foreigners and tourists in Nairobi and elsewhere in Kenya continue to be attractive targets to terrorists planning to conduct potentially imminent attacks,” read the alert.
