Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo has joined Senate Deputy Speaker position race.
Addressing journalists at Parliament buildings, Madzayo said that he is in the race for the position, joining Kalonzo Musyoka who is vying for the Senate Speaker position.
Madzayo said that he is confident that he will emerge the winner, following the fact that he has been in the senate for the third time now and is well versed with parliamentary matters.
“We have faith we will win in various seats in parliament, God will see us through,” Madzayo said.
“I have been in parliament for three terms, this is my third term, we know one another in the senate, we have been with senators here for more than ten years they know me, and I believe I can deliver,” he added.
Madzayo will battle it out with Kenya Kwanza’s Kathuri Murungi for the same position.
This is after Azimio settled on Kalonzo Musyoka as its Senate speaker candidate battling out with Amason Kingi.
In the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula will battle it out with Azimio’s Kenneth Marende while in the Deputy Speaker slot Kenya Kwanza Gladys Shollei will face Farah Maalim.
So far 37 candidates have expressed interest in the National Assembly speaker slot abd seven in the deputy speaker slot respectively.
Meanwhile, it is all systems go in the 13th parliament as by Wednesday, Senate kicked off the registration of senators’ exercise which will be followed by swearing in of Members of Parliament and Senators with subsequent election of Speakers and Deputy Speakers of the whole house.
