Menegai Oilers rugby player stabbed to death by unknown people

Kenyan Rugby Sevens star Antony Kibet has passed away.

Kibet died after being attacked and stabbed by unknown persons on Saturday night in Nakuru.

Menengai Oilers club has confirmed in a statement.

“Menengai Oilers Rugby Club would like to report that one of our players has died from stab wounds following an attack by unknown persons on Saturday night,” the Prinsloo sevens champions said in the statement.

The ‘centre half’ was with his teammate Ibrahim ‘Bobo’ Otieno who was also victimized and is undergoing treatment.

The two players were with two other women who were not injured during the incident.

According to news sources, Kibet and Bobo were enroute home from watching a soccer match when it is said the Boda Boda gang accosted and stabbed them several times.

“We would like to report that the injured player is in stable condition and cooperating with the police to provide any information that would help establish the motive of the attack and lead to the arrest of the unknown persons involved,” read the statement.

Nakuru County Police Commander Peter Mwanza said they have launched an investigation into the incident which has left rugby players in Kenya in shock and mourning.
