A 17-year-old has been arrested for allegedly being a member of a ‘panga’ wielding gang that has been mugging members of the public.
The 17-year-old boy was arrested on Saturday in the Majaoni area following a report made to Kiembeni Police station by the area chief.
According to the police, the chief reported sighting the gang that was armed with crude weapons.
“Teams that were on routine patrol in the area responded swiftly upon being activated, nabbing a 17-year-old suspect while his accomplices escaped. He is currently in custody waiting to be arraigned,” said the Police.
Police has intensified patrols in the area to ensure public safety.
“We however, encourage the public particularly the youth, to desist from being involved in any criminal activities,” said the police.
