A section of leaders in Kilifi county have told off the county government on claims of infringing on the rights of the civil society organisations.

Led by Ganze Mp Teddy Mwambire, the leaders accused Governor Amason Kingi of sanctioning CSOs in the county.

Mwambire alleged that CSOs are forced to offer bribes before they can be allowed to operate in Kilifi County.

“You cannot operate in this county unless you give out a token to the country’s leadership,” Mwambire claimed.

Meanwhile, Kilifi south MP Ken Chonga attributed poverty to bad leadership in the county.

He urged the locals to elect what he termed as responsible leaders in the August polls.

“We should elect good leaders as we approach the next elections. Poverty in this county is as a result of poor leadership,” he noted.

Meanwhile Mwambire said the ODM party primaries will be conducted freely and fairly.

The ODM chair was reacting to a statement that the party will offer direct tickets to some politicians during the party primaries.
