Mombasa, KENYA: Human rights activists in Mombasa County want the National Cohesion and Integration commission to take stern action against Mombasa gubernatorial hopefuls, Suleiman Shabhal and Mvita Mp Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir.
This follows a series of violence witnessed between their supporters in recent political rallies.
Speaking to the media in Mombasa on Thursday, Haki Yetu organization Executive director father Gabriel Dolan warned of dire consequences should the government fail to address the matter.
“These politicians should be held responsible for the eruption of violence by these politicians’ supporters,” said Dolan.
Fr. Dolan further pointed out that women and children have fallen victims of political violence promising to combat the same in Mombasa County.
He also accused the duo of orchestrating violence.
“The two politicians have not come openly to condemn the vice in public,” he wondered.
A spat was witnessed during celebrations of International Women’s day held in Tononoka grounds allegedly pitting supporters of the two.
Shahbal and Abdulswamad Nassir are among contenders for the Mombasa Gubernatorial seat.
