Female traffic officer run over by motorist in Mombasa

Police in Mombasa are investigating an incident where a female traffic officer was hit and injured by a motorist while on duty.

The officer, PC Phiona Mutua Ndanu was hit and injured by a reckless driver while directing traffic along Sheikh Abdalla Farsy road, near Petro fuel station in Mombasa, on Monday evening at around 5:40pm.

Reports say she had intercepted a Toyota Probox operating without a valid insurance sticker and asked the driver to pull over.

The suspect instead took a U-turn, knocking her down before driving off towards Bondeni.

The officer sustained serious cuts on one leg and both hands and was rushed to Premier hospital where she is receiving treatment.

Mombasa Central police OCPD, Joseph Ongaya, confirmed the incident terming it as quite unfortunate.

He said investigations to bring the suspect to book on attempted murder charges are at an advanced stage.
