Worrying trend as 5,000 people infected with HIV in Mombasa

Mombasa County recorded 5,000 HIV infections in 2020.

Out of this, 2000 were young adults, according to a study conducted by Mombasa County.

According to the study, Mombasa is one of the top ten counties with high incidence and burden of HIV.

The study further reveals that 30 per cent of new infections happen in adolscents and young people.

New infections among 10-19 year olds hit 190 cases during that period.

Infections among 15-24 years stood at 519 cases.

The HIV prevalence rate in Mombasa is 6.2 per cent.

 61,629 people are living with HIV in Mombasa County, according to the study.
