First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta to preside the world U20 Championship opening ceremony

First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta, for the second time will preside over the opening ceremony of the second largest track and field events after the opening ceremony of the 2017 World Athletics Under-18 .

The 2021 World Athletics Under-20 Championships which take place on Wednesday evening at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Nairobi Governor, Anne Kananu and The Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Amina Mohamed will also  be in attendance for the opening ceremony who will make  her remarks before inviting the chief guest.

The World Athletics U-20 Championships scheduled to be held in Nairobi as from 17 to 22 August.

The impact of Covid 19 on teams travelling and logistics of moving vital equipment around the world have proven to be a challenge. However, the full athletics programme is able to be accommodated across five days for the 100 countries.

Kenya has around 46 young athletes who will participate in 100m, 200m, 400m and 400m hurdles for both men and women as well 100m hurdles women and 110m hurdles for men.

Barnabas Korir, Athletics Kenya executive committee member, said the country has selected the best talent to battle for the competition and hoping that the younger athletes will defend the tittle.
