Mombasa businessman and politician and businessman Suleiman Shahbal is no longer a Jubilee Party member.

Shahbal submitted his resignation from Jubilee Party in his bid to run for the County’s top seat in next year’s general elections through the Orande Democratic movement party.

“In exercise of my constitution and legal rights to belong to a political party of my choice by the law through section 14 of the Political Parties Acts, 2011, I wish to resign as a member of Jubilee Party,” read Shahbal’s resignation letter.

Shahbal had expressed his interest to run for Mombasa gubernatorial seat on an ODM ticket in June this year and also expressed his support for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

He will be battling out with Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir who is also eyeing the ODM ticket for the Mombasa top seat in next year’s general elections.

“I have, today, officially resigned from the Jubilee Party. This follows my announcement to join the ODM party. I want to take this opportunity to thank the Jubilee Party leadership for the support offered to me throughout my membership. I will further put my efforts in ensuring the merger between Jubilee and ODM parties is realized. The Handshake spirit is what we all need!” wrote Shahbal on his social media platforms.
