Traders in Mombasa’s Kongowea market are counting losses after a fire ravaged part of the market on Monday night.

According to the traders, the fire is said to have started on Monday night before ravaging stalls, mostly in the ‘mitumba’ section, and other amenities.

Even though the cause of the fire is yet to be established, traders have accused unknown people of starting the fire deliberately.

Goods of unknown value were lost in the fire that ravaged the market which is the biggest market in the Coast region housing hundreds of different trades.

The fire came barely one and a half years after a similar incident destroyed property worth millions in the market in January last year.
