Human rights organization Haki Africa has written to IEBC calling for the indefinite postponement of the Msambweni by-election scheduled on 15th December 2020.
According to the lobby group, campaigns in Msambweni may worsen the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic within the Coast.
“As an organization we have time and again noticed that the police are complacent in enforcing the health regulations when it comes to politicians. This is despite them being very strict on civil society when we organize protests to condemn the theft of COVID-19 resources,” read a statement.
Haki Africa CEO Hussein Khalid wants IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati to postpone the election until the health situation normalizes in the Country.
He also accused police officers of turning a blind eye to the politicians violating health guidelines.
