The body of a form four student who died while swimming in the Indian Ocean in Lamu has been recovered.

19-year-old Anthony Kang’ethe drowned over the weekend while swimming with friends at the Baharini Channel in Mpeketoni, Lamu West.

His body was found on Monday morning on the shores of the Indian Ocean following an overnight search and recovery mission that was launched on Sunday evening.

The incident was confirmed by Mpeketoni OCPD Harrison Njuguna who said that another student, 14-year-old KCPE candidate Mark Kamau who was with Kang’ethe is also feared dead.

“The two were with a group of colleagues at the beach for a swimming expedition before things turned awry. Divers are still at the scene of the incident searching for the other missing student,” said Njuguna.

The recovered body was taken to the Mpeketoni sub-county hospital mortuary.
