Mombasa leads in number of new COVID-19 infections in the country

Mombasa is back to the headlines again as it records 40 COVID-19 cases taking lead in the national recorded cases within the last 24 hours.

A statement released by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe indicated that Mombasa was leading followed by Nairobi with, 32 cases, Laikipia 15 cases, Kiambu 11 among others.

“In Mombasa County, areas like Mvita recorded 14 cases, Kisauni 11, Likoni 5, Nyali 4, Changmwe and Jomvu 3 each,” the statement indicated.

Mombasa is on the spot again following the fact that in the recent days, COVID-19 cases have been skyrocketing contrary to the recent.

The statement indicated that nationally 148 people tested positive in the last 24 hours from a sample size of 2,438 bringing to total of number of people who tested positive to 36,724.

105 were male while 43 were female.

The youngest is two years while the oldest is 75 years.

In the coastal front, apart from Mombasa, Taita Taveta recorded 5 cases.

Fortunately, 98 people have recovered, 46 from homebased care while 52 are from various health facilities, thus bringing a total number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 to 23,701.

On a sad note, four people died, bringing total number fatalities to 646.
