The Ministry of Education will spend sh.1.9 billion to equip schools with desks that will allow compliance to Ministry of Health COVID-19 protocols.
Speaking in the Coast region while inspecting learning institutions preparedness ahead of schools re-opening in January 2021, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha said that the desks, whose designs will take into account the safety of learners during this pandemic, will be assembled locally by artisans within the counties.
Prof. Magoha also said education stakeholders will be having a meeting on Friday to deliberate further on new modalities for reopening learning institutions.
According to the education CS, only two TVET institutions have met the laid down protocols to facilitate gradual reopening, saying that some institutions lacked enough thermo guns while others have not put measures in place to ensure learners maintain social distance.
