Coast region records 42 new COVID-19 cases as national toll rises to 34,705

The Coast region has recorded 42 new COVID-19 virus infections over the last 24 hours.

Mombasa County leads with new virus infection at 21cases, Taita Taveta (8) Kilifi (6) Lamu (6), and Kwale (1).

Speaking during the COVID-19 update event in Homa Bay County, Health Chief administrative secretary Rashid Aman announced 212 new virus infections in 3,937 samples tested raising the virus infection toll in the country to 34,705.

The country’s cumulative tests stand at 463,499 while from positive cases reported on Thursday, 198 are Kenyans and 14 foreigners.

The youngest is a one month infant and the oldest 76 years.

Mombasa cases are distributed in : Changamwe (7), Jomvu (4) Nyali (4) Mvita (4) and Likoni (1).

Aman also announced that 195 patients were discharged after recovering from the virus, 141 were under home-based health care program and 54 people were discharged from various health facilities raising recoveries to 20,644.

Four more people have also succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours bringing the fatality rate to 585 people.

Nairobi continues to lead in the daily positivity rate, recording 96 cases in the last 24 hours.
