Coastal region recorded 21 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours even as the country recorded 426 new infections.
The new cases in the region are from Mombasa (16), Kilifi (4) and Lamu (1).
Health Chief Cabinet Secretary Dr Mercy Mwangangi on Thursday announced that the new COVID-19 cases now raise the national infections to 31,441 since the first case was recorded in the Country.
Mwangangi said that the positive cases were recorded in 5158 samples tested in the last 24 hours, with the youngest infected being a three months old infant.
Nairobi County again leads in the new infections with 132 COVID-19 new cases.
The Ministry of Health also announced that the positive rate is 7.9 percent and has increased for the last four weeks.
Death toll also rose to 516 after 10 more patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.
Mwangangi said that among the deaths recorded, three were community deaths and called upon Kenyans to ensure they take sick people to the hospital.
257 people recovered from the virus bringing total recoveries to 17,869.
According to Mwangangi 195 of the new recoveries were under the home-based care program while 62 were discharged from various hospitals where they were receiving treatment.
Mwangangi further encouraged parents to ensure that children receive vaccines saying that the number of children receiving vaccines have gone down in the county since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country.
