Police in Mombasa town are pursuing three suspects who shot and killed an M-pesa agent on Friday morning.

Mombasa DCI Antony Muriithi revealed that a special team had been dispatched on Friday morning to pursue the killers.

“The victim succumbed to the gunshot wounds on arrival at the Coast Provincial general hospital and we will give more information on the same after we have arrested suspects,” said Murithi.

According to a witness, three suspected armed robbers attacked the deceased a few meters from the M-pesa shop located at the Express area along Moi Avenue and shot her twice in the abdomen after she failed to surrender her handbag.

Muriithi confirmed that the deceased was from the bank to collect money which was to be used to run the shop during the day.

“The suspects ran away with an undisclosed amount of money, “said Muriithi.

Large crowds and heavy police presence were witnessed in the area a few minutes after the incident which happened at about 9 am in the morning.

However, this is not the first time a gun-related incident is happening in the area synonymous with offices and garages.

In 2018, police gunned two robbery with violence suspects in the area and recovered an AK-47 hidden in one of the parked vehicles in the garage area.

According to the then Mombasa county police commander Johnstone Ipara, Police also recovered a hammer with blood stains which police suspect the suspects had been using to torture their victims with, three phones, four nylon bags, and a nylon rope.
