The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union secretary-general Chibanzi Mwachonda has tested positive for COVID-19 becoming the newest medical worker to test positive.
In a press release on Friday, Chibanzi stated that he had contracted the virus while dispensing his official duties.
“ I am currently in stable condition under self-isolation. My family is safe, contact tracing and testing of all contacts is ongoing” Mwachonda said.

This comes just a few weeks after the ministry of health confirmed that 12 medics had tested positive in Nyeri county.
Earlier, the virus had threatened to stall services at the Pumwani maternity hospital after 41 medical workers tested positive.
Over 600 medical workers have tested positive for the virus in the country.
Mwachonda had earlier said that the health system was becoming overwhelmed after more and more doctors tested positive and went into isolation.
“Lack of replacement of health workers who go to isolation has led to overworking of remaining staff leading to burnout of the remaining health workforce,” Mwachonda said two weeks ago.
Two weeks ago, Doreen Adisa Lugaliki became the first doctor to succumb to the virus in the country.
