The government on Tuesday extended restaurant working hours to 7:30 pm.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that the government reached the decision after establishing that most of the restaurants were observing the ministry’s COVID-19 guidelines.

“We have not opened bars, we are only allowing restaurants to operate just to enable people to get food, “said Kagwe.

The decision comes as the government announces 133 new COVID-19 cases in the 3,255 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

Kenya has confirmed 3,860 positive cases since the first COVID-19 case was recorded in March.

Nairobi has 86 new cases, Mombasa 27, Kiambu seven, and Busia Five while Kilifi County reported two cases.

Mombasa cases are distributed as follows; Mvita 16, Kisauni six, and Nyali three cases.

40 more people were discharged from the hospital after they turned negative for the virus bringing a total of 1326 recoveries.

Kagwe also confirmed that another patient succumbed to the virus.
