Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru has been impeached.

Waiguru was impeached by 23 members of the County Assembly out of 33 members.

Kirinyaga County Assembly placed on its Order Paper Tuesday, a motion which was filed by Mutira Ward MCA David Kinyua to impeach the Governor.

County Assembly Speaker Anthony Gathumbi announced the removal of Waiguru after the vote reached the threshold required to impeach her.

Earlier, Mayhem erupted after two MCAs Anthony Munene and nominated MCA Lucy Njeri were ousted from the proceedings.

The duo is reportedly leaning to Waiguru faction.

The MCAs have been accusing Waiguru of gross violation of the Constitution, abuse of office, and gross misconduct.

Earlier Waiguru issued a statement downplaying the impeachment process.

“The issues raised in the motion are baseless, and a waste of valuable time that would be better spent handling the serious impacting the County, including the Covid-19 crisis,” said Waguru.

“Their intent is merely to bully me to achieve nefarious and personalized political objectives,” she added.

she pointed out that she obtained a court order from High Court stopping any proceedings by the Assembly on the impeachment motion until issues that she raised with the court were determined.

“These matters remain undetermined and an injunction remains in place,” Waiguru said.

“If the Assembly does proceed in violation of the subsisting Court Orders, I shall seek such orders for contempt against the Speaker and all participating members,” said Waiguru.
