KPA finance manager denies irregularly paying brother’s firm sh.214 million

Embattled Kenya Ports Authority finance manager Patrick Wambugu Nyoike and clerical officer Isaac Obunga have denied making an irregular payment worth sh. 214.5 million to Nyali capital limited.

The company is owned by his brother Alfred Hinga Nyoike while his wife Jacinta Wambui Nyoike serves as the general manager .

This according to court documents filed by the director of public prosecutions Noordin Hajj.

Wambugu and Obunga, appeared before Mombasa principal magistrate Edna Nyaloti where they denied the charges  of conspiracy to commit an economic crime,Abuse of office,failure to disclose private interest and dealing with suspect property.

According to court documents filed by the DPP ,Obunga the clerical officer helped Wambugu, the finance manager illegally  list Nyali capital limited in the KPA portal with the company posing as an approved Local Purchase Order(LPO) and Local Service Order(LSO) financier for KPA suppliers.

The company then proceeded to offer financing to KPA suppliers and received interest amounting to  sh 214,548,348 from the said suppliers which was paid by KPA.

The suspects were charged in a sitting at the Mombasa law courts corridor.
