Taita Taveta county has recorded her first case of Coronavirus in a truck driver who is currently isolated at the Moi county referral hospital in Voi.

According to the Taita Taveta health CECM John Mwakima , the truck driver had tested positive in Uganda .

“The driver travelled to Uganda on 3rd May and he was tested. He returned to Kenya on 7th and authorities in Uganda contacted him to tell him that his test had turned out positive. So he surrendered to the health authorities in Maungu area of Taita Tavetä” Mwakima said.

However, Mwakima said that the county had not received a copy of the truck driver’s positive test from Ugandan authorities and hence they had sent his samples to the KEMRI laboratory in Kilifi for further confirmation.

“ We have began contact tracing to ensure that those he came into contact with are traced and isolated”Mwakima added.

This comes as the county tightens its border with Tanzania in an effort to prevent importing cases from Tanzania.

Last week 20 Kenyans were placed on forced quarantine after being arrested while trying to sneak into the country at the Holili border.

Kwale,Taita Taveta and Narok are the only border counties that have not imported a positive case from Tanzania.
