Residents who fled Old Town to be arrested

Mombasa County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo has directed Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs in Mombasa to arrest all residents relocated from Old Town.

Kitiyo warned that the move to relocate by some of Old Town residents may end up spreading the COVID_19 virus in more areas.

“I have informed chiefs to arrest those who have moved their areas from Old Town,” said Kitiyo.

Cabinet Secretary for Health Mutahi Kagwe announced containment order in Old Town Mombasa as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The containment announced yesterday by the Ministry of Interior will be effective for the next 15 days.

According to Mombasa County government, a record eight people have died of COVID-19 in Old Town after the government announced two more deaths.

Old Town with the population of 28,000 has recorded 39 positive cases in Mombasa.

The containment was announced three days after Mombasa County Governor Ali Hassan Joho warned residents over a lockdown following failure to observe the government directives to curb COVID-19 virus.
