51-year-old woman dies in Mombasa as County COVID-19 numbers increase

A 51 year old woman from Mombasa is the 22nd person whose life has been claimed by COVID-19, after she died from the disease on Saturday.

According to the Ministry of Health, the 51 year old was admitted in hospital on 27th April with an underlying condition.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 infections in the County rose to 129 after five more people tested positive for the disease on Saturday.

“Our targeted testing approach is showing that COVID 19 is now firmly rooted within our communities. In order to break the cycle of transmission within our communities, we must strictly observe the containment measures, particularly social distancing,” said Ministry of Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi.

Of the new cases, two are from Mikindani, two from Mwembe Tayari and one from Shimanzi.

The National infections stand at 435 after 24 more people tested positive for the disease on Saturday.

Out of the 24, 10 are male and 14 female.

Four are aged between one and 19 years, 14 cases are between 20-39 years while the remaining six ages range between 40-60 years.

“This is the highest number of positive cases we have recorded since we reported our first case,” said CAS Mwangangi.

Total number of recoveries rose to 129 after two more people recovered from the disease.
